New From Here
Kelly Yang
The book new from here, is about a ten year old boy (Knox) living in Hong Kong during the COVID-19 outbreak with his older brother (Bowen) and his younger sister (Lea) and Mom and Dad. Knox and his family (except for the dad and dog) must travel to America to live a hopefully healthier life. But this new life is difficult. New from here is a very humorous and powerful book. It helps you see in different perspectives, not just through the eyes of the protagonist. Also, it touches on current day issues with society and helps the reader get a better understanding of what is happening today.
While reading this book, I learned more about the issues that are happening today and about how other people are reacting to those issues. I feel as though people everywhere should read this book. It’s sparked sympathy and empathy in me.
